Live band kit for up to 200 people
The live band kit for up to 200 people is the sound system for a four- or five-piece band with drums, guitars, bass, keys and two vocals, playing at a company party, a wedding, a club or a village festival. Unlike the party kits, it has two stage monitors the musicians hear themselves through, microphones for the whole drum kit, the vocals and the guitar amps, DI boxes for bass and keys, and a stand for every microphone, on top of the audience speakers and subwoofers. The mixer is a 24-channel digital desk with room for everything.
A gig day with this kit: the gear arrives before the band, speakers and subwoofers go in front of the stage, monitors on the stage edge, mics are placed on the drums and amps and every input is line-checked. When the band arrives, the sound check goes instrument by instrument and the monitor mixes are set; the Ui24R lets a musician adjust their own monitor mix from a phone. During the show someone at the mixer brings up the vocals and solos. We recommend our technician with this kit; a band sound check without experience eats the whole evening.

Why these items
- 1.Two JBL SRX812P powered speakers give the audience the clear top end of vocals and instruments and keep up with a band's dynamics in a 200-person hall.
- 2.Two JBL SRX828SP powered 2×18-inch subwoofers give the bass guitar and kick drum the weight that one 18-inch subwoofer next to a live drummer does not provide.
- 3.Two distance poles lift the SRX812Ps onto the subwoofers, so no separate stands go in front of the stage and the speakers are above the audience's heads.
- 4.Two JBL PRX812 powered speakers work as stage monitors, laid on their side at the stage edge, and provide two separate monitor mixes, for instance for the vocals and the rhythm section.
- 5.The Soundcraft Ui24R is a 24-channel digital mixer with room for the whole band plus spare channels, whose monitor mixes the musicians can adjust from their phones and which records the show multitrack to USB.
- 6.Two Shure SM58s are the vocal mics, which handle stage noise and close singing and are familiar to musicians.
- 7.Two Shure SM57s go in front of the guitar amps, where they take the volume and send the exact sound the guitarist has dialled in straight to the mixer.
- 8.One Shure BETA 52A sits inside or at the port of the kick drum and delivers the punch the subwoofers carry on.
- 9.Three Sennheiser e904s clip onto the rims of the snare and two toms, so there is no forest of stands around the drums.
- 10.Two Shure SM81s are the overheads for the cymbals and the overall picture of the kit, turning the drums into a stereo image.
- 11.Two BSS AR-133 active DI boxes take the bass guitar and the keyboard straight into the mixer, so their amps do not need to be miked.
- 12.Six K&M 210/9 tall mic stands are for the two vocals, the two overheads and two spares, for example a backing vocal or a horn.
- 13.Three K&M 259/1 short stands are for the kick drum mic and the two guitar amp mics, which sit close to the floor.
- 14.Two speaker stands are a reserve for when the subwoofers are grouped together in front of the stage and the speakers are better placed on stands at the sides of the stage.
Setup and preparation
Subwoofers in front of the stage, speakers on poles on top and slightly forward of the stage edge so the vocal mics do not feed back. Monitors on their side at the stage edge, aimed at the singer and the drummer. Mics on the drums and amps, DI boxes next to bass and keys, all cables to the mixer, which can sit beside the stage or in the middle of the room. Go through the channels, set the monitor mixes and play a whole song before the doors open.
The organiser needs to provide solid power by the stage in several sockets, a stage or at least a flat dry surface for the band, a table for the mixer and tablet, and time: the band needs at least an hour for sound check and the setup happens before that. Ask the band for their stage plan and input list in advance, then the cables come in the right lengths. Our technician delivers the kit, sets it up, runs the sound check and mixes the show; agreed when you order.

When to choose another kit
If an acoustic duo or trio without drums is playing, the Acoustic duo kit for up to 80 people is enough. If the audience is 300 to 500 or the concert is outdoors on a large ground, choose the Concert kit for up to 500 people (line array), which has four monitors and a stage box. If the band wants earphones instead of floor monitors, add the In-ear monitor kit for four musicians, and if the singer moves around the stage a lot, add wireless handhelds.
