Is the SRX828SP too big for a small party?

For a hundred people, usually yes; the SRX818SP is the better pick there. The SRX828SP is worth it when there are hundreds of listeners or the room is tall and large.

Can I use PRX815 speakers with it?

Yes, a PRX815 or SRX812P goes straight on top via a Speaker Pole and the subwoofer handles the crossover itself.

The JBL SRX828SP is an active subwoofer with two 18-inch drivers, the strongest bass cabinet in our active systems. We rent it for club nights, larger company parties, outdoor parties and band concerts where the audience numbers in the hundreds and the dance floor has to feel the bass. One SRX828SP per side replaces two SRX818SP and takes less room at the stage edge.

An SRX812P or PRX815 goes on top on a pole; the signal runs from the console into the sub and on to the main speaker. For a smaller party the SRX818SP is enough and easier to transport. When the event grows to festival size and the system is flown, the right choice is the passive VTX B28 with a Crown I-Tech 12000HD amplifier.

What to consider when renting

The subwoofer is heavy and needs two people, plus a cart if the path is not level. You need a mains connection on an adequate breaker, an XLR cable from the console and a Speaker Pole for the main speaker. Place the subs on the floor in front of the stage, either together in the centre or symmetrically on both sides. Check that cables are securely covered before the party.
