Prices are per 24 hours of rental. Longer rentals, delivery and setup are quoted on request.
The Shure BETA 52A is a supercardioid dynamic microphone for kick drum and one of the most common kick mics on stages. It is rented for rock, pop and metal shows, club nights, festival backlines and rehearsal rooms, as well as for bass guitar amps. The sound is pre-shaped: strong lows, a slight midrange dip and a sharp attack, so little correction is needed at the mixer. It has an integrated locking stand adapter.
Among our kick drum microphones the BETA 52A is the safe default. The Shure Nexadyne 2 is newer and rejects more bleed from the sides, the Sennheiser e902 is an equivalent workhorse, the AKG D112 MKII rounder and the AKG D12VR softer and more old-school. If you want more click, add a Shure BETA 91A inside the drum. It goes together with Nexadyne 6 or e904 on toms and SM81 overheads, all into a Yamaha DM3.
What to consider when renting
Screw the mic onto a short stand such as the K&M 259/1 and place the capsule in the port hole or a few centimetres inside the drum, pointing at the beater. The deeper inside, the more click and less boom. XLR cable to the desk, no phantom power required. Make sure the stand does not touch the drum, or rattle will come through the channel. A band can set it up without help.
Best for
- Kick drum at rock and pop shows
- Festival backline and club stages
- Bass guitar amp
- Rehearsal room drum kit
