The JBL SRX818SP is an 18-inch active subwoofer that adds the bass the PRX812, PRX815 and SRX812P active speakers lack on their own. We rent it for the dance part of weddings and company parties, DJ nights in a bar or club and band concerts in a smaller hall. One sub per side is the usual kit for a couple of hundred people.
The subwoofer has its amplifier and DSP inside and a pole socket on top, so the main speaker rises straight above it on a Speaker Pole. The signal runs from the console into the sub and on to the main speaker. If you need twice the bass in one cabinet, choose the SRX828SP. This sub does not belong in a passive VTX system; there the B18 and B28 take that role.
What to consider when renting
Each subwoofer needs its own mains socket and an XLR cable; the main speaker goes on a Speaker Pole on top of the sub with one more short XLR running up. Put the sub on the floor, not on the stage, so the bass carries better. Near a corner the bass gets louder, so keep that in mind when choosing the spot. Setting it up yourself is manageable.
Best for
- Dance floor at weddings and company parties
- DJ nights in a bar or club
- Band concerts in a small hall
- Bass extension for PRX and SRX active speakers
