Does the I-Tech 12000HD work with active speakers?

No. Active speakers like the JBL SRX812P or PRX815 already have an amplifier inside and connect straight to the console. This amplifier is for passive speakers, in our stock mainly the VTX series subwoofers and line arrays.

How many subwoofers can one amplifier drive?

It depends on the subwoofer and how it is wired. Usually one channel runs one VTX B28 or one to two B18s. Tell us which system you are putting together and we will say exactly how many amplifiers you need.

The Crown I-Tech 12000HD is a two-channel touring amplifier that we rent mainly to drive JBL VTX passive subwoofers and line array elements. The typical customer is the technical crew of a concert or festival that takes a passive system from us and needs an amplifier rack to go with it. The amplifier has built-in DSP with presets for JBL loudspeakers, so a separate processor for the subs is normally not required.

In our warehouse this amplifier mostly sits in front of VTX B18 or B28 subwoofers, one channel per sub or per pair. If you need one amplifier to drive a whole VTX A8 array together with monitors, look at the four-channel Crown I-Tech 4×3500HD instead. With active speakers such as the SRX812P or PRX815 you do not need this amplifier at all, since the amplification is already inside them.

What to consider when renting

The amplifier needs a solid mains connection, preferably on its own breaker, and speaker cables with Speakon connectors out to the subwoofers. Inputs are XLR or AES, so the console or processor has to be cabled to it. The loudspeaker preset is selected in the amplifier DSP and is best left to our technician. The amp travels in a rack; keep it dry and leave air space behind it.
