Do I need a mixer for the PRX815?

Not for two sources; they plug straight into the speaker. With more microphones and instruments, add a Soundcraft Ui24R or a small analogue mixer.

How many people do two PRX815 cover?

For speech and background music, comfortably a couple of hundred. For a dance party or a band we recommend adding an SRX818SP subwoofer.

The JBL PRX815 is a 15-inch active speaker and our most common choice when a good main speaker is needed without an amp rack. We rent it for weddings, school events, company summer days and smaller concerts with a few dozen to a couple of hundred people. The 15-inch woofer gives more low end than the PRX812, so background music and a DJ night manage without a subwoofer.

If you want something more compact or better suited as a monitor, choose the PRX812. If a band is playing and you want more headroom, the SRX812P with an SRX818SP subwoofer is the stronger kit. The speaker goes on a pole over a subwoofer or on a Gravity TLS 431 B stand. It has two inputs, so a microphone and a music source can be plugged straight into the speaker if needed.

What to consider when renting

The speaker needs a mains socket and an XLR signal cable. Raise it on a Gravity TLS 431 B stand or on a Speaker Pole over a subwoofer, above head height, so the sound reaches the back rows. Tape cables to the floor. Outdoors, protect the speaker from rain and never leave stands in the wind without weights. A two-speaker kit can be set up yourself.
