The DH5T is Shure's DuraPlex omnidirectional subminiature headset, built to put up with sweat, moisture and daily stage use. The frame rests behind both ears and stays put while jumping and dancing. We rent it for musicals and dance productions, fitness studios and sports events, fashion shows, and performers who speak or sing for long stretches while constantly moving. The colour is light tan so it stands out less on the face.
The plug is MTQG, that is TA4F, so the mic goes straight onto a Shure bodypack: SLXD1, QLXD1, AD1 or ADX1. Compared with the MX153 earset, the DH5 is more moisture resistant and more secure on two ears; the MX153 is lighter and quicker to put on, which suits a conference speaker. The SM35 is cardioid and more rugged, made for a loud stage where an omni headset would pick up too much monitor spill. If the speaker stands still and the mic may be visible, a lavalier will do.
What to consider when renting
Fit the frame before rehearsal and place the capsule about a finger's width from the corner of the mouth, not directly in front of it, to keep breath noise down. Wipe the capsule and swap the windscreen when it gets sweaty. The transmitter goes on the belt or inside the costume with the cable run under clothing. Each transmitter needs its own receiver channel; transmitters and receivers are ordered separately or as a kit and we set the frequencies.
Best for
- Musicals and dance productions
- Fitness and sports events
- Fashion shows and TV appearances
- Long sets with a moving performer
