Does the ADX5D fit my camera's battery slot?

It depends on the camera and the adapter. Tell us the camera model and we will check whether the slot fits or whether you need external power and a cable.

How many microphones can one ADX5D handle?

Two, each on its own channel. For more, take a second ADX5D or a rack-mounted AD4Q.

The Shure ADX5D is the portable two-channel Axient Digital receiver that mounts on a camera or lives in a sound bag. We rent it to film and TV crews, documentary makers and interview recordists: two lavaliers on bodypacks, or a reporter's handheld plus the interviewee's lavalier, recorded straight into the camera or a Sound Devices MixPre6. The unit is small, runs on batteries and copes with a full day in the field.

The ADX5D receives every Axient Digital transmitter: AD1 and ADX1 bodypacks, AD2 and ADX2 handhelds and the AD3 plug-on. Power comes from batteries, a Shure rechargeable or the camera's battery slot where the camera supports it; the output is two analogue channels. In a fixed venue the AD4D makes more sense, the ADX5D is built for moving. A cheaper answer for a simple video interview is the RØDE Wireless GO II.

What to consider when renting

The receiver needs two antennas and power from AA batteries, a Shure rechargeable or the camera slot. The output cable from receiver to camera or recorder depends on your camera, so tell us the model when ordering. Transmitters sync by infrared and the unit finds frequencies by scanning. Order the lavalier or handheld and the transmitter batteries separately. Bring spare batteries for the day.
