Outdoor event kit for up to 300 people
Outdoors you lose every advantage a hall gives: no walls to reflect sound, no ceiling to hold the bass together, and the audience spreads out. For the same crowd you need noticeably more low end and more height than indoors. That is why this kit has two JBL SRX828SP double-18-inch subwoofers, two SRX812P speakers on poles above them, a Soundcraft Ui24R digital mixer, two wireless handhelds and a DI box for a laptop. For up to 300 people at a district day, a summer gathering, an outdoor party or a fairground where music is played and speeches are made.
A day outdoors starts with power. Every speaker and subwoofer has its own mains lead, the mixer and receiver too, so you need a proper mains supply or a generator and enough long, weatherproof extension leads. Then the placement: subwoofers on the ground, speakers on poles above them so the sound travels over the first rows. The mixer goes under a canopy and is controlled from a tablet, so the engineer can stand where they hear what the audience hears. Rain, wind and sun are all enemies: electronics must be covered, stands weighted and microphones fitted with windshields.

Why these items
- 1.Two JBL SRX812P active speakers with a 12-inch woofer and a 3-inch high-frequency driver carry speech and music further and more clearly outdoors than the smaller models we offer indoors for the same crowd size.
- 2.Two JBL SRX828SP subwoofers with two 18-inch drivers each are chosen because bass disappears quickly outdoors and a single 18-inch sub would be weak here; two double subs give the dance floor a foundation even in the back row.
- 3.Two speaker poles mount each speaker on top of a subwoofer, so no separate stands are needed and the heavy sub keeps the whole pole steady in a windy spot.
- 4.The Soundcraft Ui24R digital mixer is controlled from a tablet, which outdoors means the engineer does not have to sit at the end of the cables under a tent but can adjust levels from among the audience; it also records the event to a USB drive.
- 5.The Shure SLXD24D/B58 system with two wireless handhelds lets a host and a presenter speak without a cable anywhere on the site, and the Beta 58A capsule resists feedback next to loud music.
- 6.The Radial USB-PRO DI box takes music from a laptop and hands it to the mixer as a clean balanced signal that does not start to hum over a long cable outdoors.
Setup and preparation
The subwoofers go either side of the stage front on a hard, level surface, the poles onto the subs and the speakers on top of the poles, aimed over the audience. The mixer and the wireless receiver go under a tent or canopy away from the stage; the tablet connects to the mixer over the Wi-Fi that the mixer creates itself. Cables from the speakers to the mixer are taped down or lifted over walkways. Windshields go on the microphones and a free frequency is checked.
On the organiser's side you need a mains supply that carries four active speakers and a mixer, or a generator, a canopy for the mixer, plastic covers for the speakers in case of rain and someone to run the mixer. Tell us in advance how far the power source is from the stage so the cables reach. Two subwoofers are heavy; lifting them takes two people and a vehicle they fit in. Most customers order this kit together with setup by our technician; ask for a quote.

When to choose another kit
If the crowd is well over 300 or the stage is large, the Concert kit for up to 500 people (line array) is the right step; it definitely needs our technician. If a band is playing, add microphones, DI boxes and monitors along the lines of the Live band kit for up to 200 people, or order them separately. For a smaller outdoor event without dancing, such as a speech in a park, the Battery-powered speech kit for outdoors or the Party kit for up to 100 people is enough.
