Four wireless handheld microphone kit
Four wireless handhelds in one case is the typical order for a conference panel, an awards gala, a moderated talk show or four singers. The heart of the kit is the Shure SLXD4Q, one unit that receives four channels at once, and four SLXD2/B58 handhelds with the Beta 58A capsule. Alongside come two UA874 directional antennas and the UA844+ distributor, which put the antennas near the stage away from the receiver, and the SBRC charger that keeps the batteries full. A sound system and mixer are not included; this is a microphone kit for your PA or ours.
Put simply: each handheld is a transmitter that sends the voice by radio to the receiver. The receiver handles four microphones with a separate output per channel into the mixer, so the engineer adjusts each microphone on its own. The antennas pick up the signal; being directional and separate from the receiver, they can sit near the stage while the receiver stays by the mixer at the back. The distributor powers the antennas and passes the signal on. The charger works at the end of the day and overnight at a multi-day event.

Why these items
- 1.The Shure SLXD4QDAN is a four-channel receiver with all four microphones in one unit; its outputs are both analogue XLRs for an ordinary mixer and Dante for a digital console.
- 2.Four Shure SLXD2/B58 handhelds carry the Beta 58A capsule, which is strong and feedback-resistant for speech and vocals, and four is the right number for a panel or four singers.
- 3.The Shure UA844+ antenna distributor powers the active antennas and passes their signal to the receiver, so the antennas can be placed on longer cables away from the receiver.
- 4.Two Shure UA874WB active directional antennas catch the signal more reliably than the whip antennas on the back of the receiver, and two are needed because the receiver uses two antennas at the same time.
- 5.The Shure SBRC charger charges the microphone batteries on site, which at a multi-day conference or a long gala is cheaper and more dependable than swapping disposable batteries.
Setup and preparation
The receiver and distributor go next to the mixer or in a rack beside the stage; the antennas go on microphone stands either side of the stage front at roughly head height, aimed at the presenters. Four XLR cables run from the receiver to the mixer. Before the event each of the four microphones is checked on its channel and labelled accordingly. The charger needs its own socket and sits where the microphones are returned during breaks.
On your side you need a mixer and speakers for the microphones to feed into, two microphone stands for the antennas and someone to run the event. When presenters change and microphones move around the room, a sound technician is practically unavoidable. Tell us when ordering whether the mixer is analogue or a digital console on a Dante network, so the right cables come along. Setup and frequency coordination by our technician are available on request; ask for a quote.

When to choose another kit
If you only need two microphones, the Shure SLXD24D/B58 dual handheld system without the antenna distributor and charger is the simpler choice. If you need speakers, a mixer and headset microphones for presenters as well, look at the Conference kit for up to 300 people, where the same SLXD4Q receiver already comes with a sound system. More than four channels at once needs a second receiver and frequency planning; let us know and we will put it together.
