How many receivers can hang off one UA844+?

Four, plus a cascade output to daisy-chain the next distributor. With dual-channel receivers that is eight channels, with AD4Q units more. Tell us the channel count and we will work out how many distributors you need.

Do I need it for two microphones?

No. Two separate receivers with their own antennas work fine. Distribution pays off from three or four receivers, or when the antennas have to be far from the rack at the edge of the stage.

The UA844+ is Shure's antenna distribution unit: one pair of antennas is received once and shared among several receivers, so you do not need two antennas behind every receiver in the rack. It also powers the receivers, which cuts down on adapters and extension leads. You will want one at any event with four or more wireless microphones on stage.

It works with our Shure receivers: AD4D and AD4Q, QLXD4 and SLXD4. Feed it with standard whip antennas or with directional UA874WB paddles on a stand aimed at the stage. Without distribution, antennas standing next to each other start to interfere and the rack becomes a forest; with it, reception is more even and set-up and tear-down are quicker.

What to consider when renting

The distributor sits in the rack close to the receivers; we link it to them with short coaxial jumpers, and the antennas are run by cable to wherever there is a clear view of the stage. The unit supplies power to active antennas. All receivers must work in the same frequency band as the distributor. As a rule we assemble the wireless rack and coordinate frequencies before handover; on site you set up the antennas and provide mains power.
