Is one antenna enough?

Shure receivers use two antennas at once and need a pair. One UA874WB with one whip antenna works, but reception will not be even. Order two.

How far from the rack can the antenna go?

That is exactly what the active antenna is for: the internal amplifier makes up for cable loss. The exact length depends on the cable type; tell us the distance and we will include suitable cable and the right gain setting.

The UA874WB is Shure's active directional antenna, a flat paddle with built-in amplifier and selectable gain. On a mic stand aimed at the stage, it brings wireless mic signals to the receivers stronger than rack-mounted whip antennas can. You need it when the receiver rack is far from the stage, say at the desk at the back of the hall.

Antennas are used in pairs (for diversity reception) and connect directly to a receiver or to a UA844+ distributor, which powers them through the coaxial cable. They fit our AD4D, AD4Q and SLXD4Q receivers. With short cables and a rack next to the stage, standard antennas are enough; with long runs and a wide stage the paddle makes a difference.

What to consider when renting

Mount two antennas on stands roughly a couple of metres up, spaced apart and both pointing at the stage, with no people or metal structures in front of them. Set the gain according to cable length, not to maximum: too much gain overloads the receiver. Power comes from the receiver or the distributor down the antenna cable. Cables and stands are ordered separately; if you are unsure about the configuration, let our technician set the system up.
