The Yamaha DM3 is a compact 16-input digital mixing console with a Dante interface. We rent it for small bands, seminars, weddings and church concerts with up to sixteen microphones, where the console has to be handled by one person. The touchscreen and physical faders keep it fast even during a soundcheck in a dark hall.

The DM3 connects directly to active speakers such as the SRX812P or PRX815 and to wireless microphone receivers. Over Dante you can add a RIO1608-D2 stage rack or an SLXD4QDAN receiver. With more than 16 inputs, choose the QL1. If the mixer is to be controlled from a tablet without faders, the Soundcraft Ui24R is cheaper.

What to consider when renting

The console needs a wall socket, XLR cables from the microphones and output cables to the speakers. Dante needs a network cable and a switch. Plan the input order in advance and the soundcheck goes faster. The desk can also be controlled from a tablet. An experienced amateur can assemble the kit; the soundcheck is best done by a technician.
