The MX153T is Shure's single-ear omnidirectional earset headworn mic in a light tan colour with a TA4F plug. It is light and goes on in seconds, which makes it our usual choice for a conference keynote speaker, a trainer, a worship leader, a tour guide and a speaking actor in theatre who does not want to hold anything and does not want a lavalier's level to wander as the head turns.
It needs a Shure bodypack (SLXD1, QLXD1, AD1) and a receiver, ordered separately or as a kit. If the performer dances, sweats or wears the mic for hours on end, pick the DH5T, which rests on both ears, sits more securely and tolerates moisture. For a singer on a loud stage the cardioid SM35 is the better fit, because the omni MX153 picks up monitor spill. If the speaker sits still on a panel, the MX150B lavalier is enough.
What to consider when renting
Shape the flexible boom so the capsule sits beside the corner of the mouth without touching the cheek; an omni capsule does not need to be right in front of the mouth. Fix the cable to the collar at the nape so head turns do not shift the mic. Transmitter on the belt, battery check before each speaker. Levels differ from person to person, so plan a quick line check at every changeover. We tune transmitter and receiver before handover.
Best for
- Conference keynotes and trainers
- Church and worship services
- Spoken theatre
- Tour guides
