The AKG D112 MKII is a dynamic kick drum microphone with a sound many engineers recognise by ear: a solid low end and a beater click that cuts through the mix without heavy EQ. We rent it for any event with a drum kit, from a club gig to a festival, and also for a bass guitar amp, tuba or trombone, where low frequencies and a loud source call for a rugged microphone.

It has an integrated swivel mount, so a short stand such as the K&M 259/1 is enough. No phantom power is needed. Against our other kick mics: the Shure BETA 52A has a sharper click and a supercardioid pattern, the Sennheiser e902 is a similar tool, and the Shure BETA 91A is a boundary mic that goes inside the drum and is often combined with a D112 at the port. What to consider when renting

Place the mic on a short stand at or inside the port of the front head, capsule aimed at the batter head; the closer to the batter head, the more click. A dynamic mic copes with the close, loud hit and needs no phantom power. XLR cable and stand are ordered separately. Tie the cable to the stand so the drummer's foot cannot move it. For a full drum miking package, ask and we will bundle mics and stands.
