How many musicians can listen on one kit?

One kit gives one mix, but you can add as many extra P9RA+ packs to the same transmitter as you need. If everyone wants their own mix, each one needs their own transmitter.

Does this replace stage wedges completely?

For many bands yes, when every member is on in-ears. If part of the band stays on speakers you can combine: in-ears for those who want them, wedges for the others. The engineer simply has more mixes to build.

The Shure PSM900 is a wireless in-ear monitoring kit: the P9T transmitter for the rack and the P9RA+ bodypack receiver for the musician's belt. One kit gives one stereo mix on stage, which one or several musicians can listen to. It is our typical rental for bands moving from wedges to earphones, or adding them: a singer who needs a clean vocal mix, a drummer with a click, a keyboard player, or a whole band on one general mix.

Every different mix needs its own P9T transmitter; several packs can listen to the same transmitter. With two or more transmitters add the PA421B antenna combiner and a shared antenna, such as the UA860 or the directional HA-8091. Earphones are not included, so take the SE215CL. Compared with Axient Digital PSM (ADTQ and ADXR), the PSM900 is analogue, simpler and cheaper, and perfectly adequate for two or three mixes; from four channels up, or in a crowded spectrum, consider the ADTQ.

What to consider when renting

The transmitter needs mains power and a stereo or two mono feeds from the console aux outputs; the pack needs batteries or a Shure rechargeable, plus earphones. Transmitter and pack leave us tuned to the same frequency; do not change it on site without a technician, as it must also fit the wireless microphones. Put the antenna on the rack front or on a stand with a clear view of the stage. Start quiet and raise the level gradually.
