Does the AD221 work with PSM900 transmitters?

No, it is made for the Axient Digital PSM transmitter ADTQ. For PSM900 P9T transmitters we rent the PA421B combiner.

Can it also split receiving antennas for microphones?

In principle it is a passive splitter, but for microphone receivers we use the UA844+ active antenna distribution. Ask us if your situation is unusual.

The AD221 is the passive two-way combiner/splitter of Shure's Axient Digital PSM range: it merges the antenna outputs of two ADTQ transmitters into one antenna or, connected the other way, splits one antenna's signal in two. You need it when two ADTQ units, meaning eight monitor channels, must radiate from a single antenna.

The unit is passive, needs no power and adds a little loss, which the ADTQ's output easily makes up for. An HA-8091 helical or a UA860 fits on its output. It is not suitable for analogue PSM900 transmitters (P9T), which take the active PA421B combiner. With a single ADTQ the AD221 is not needed.

What to consider when renting

Connect the antenna outputs of both ADTQ units to the AD221 inputs with short coaxial jumpers and run the output to the antenna. The unit is simple and has no settings, but the frequencies must be coordinated so the two transmitters do not interfere; we do that before handover. Mount it in the rack next to the transmitters to keep cables short. Antenna, cables and stand come separately.
