What is the difference between the UA860 and the whip that comes with the unit?

Essentially the same job, but the UA860 is made for remote mounting on a cable and fits a stand. If the antenna can stay on the rack, the whip is enough.

Is one UA860 enough for a PSM system?

Yes, a transmitter or combiner needs one antenna. Receivers (for microphones), on the other hand, need two, so there we recommend a pair.

The UA860 is Shure's passive omnidirectional antenna: a simple half-wave antenna that picks up or radiates equally in every direction. We use it on PSM transmitters and combiners when the standard whip has to be brought out of the rack on a cable, and as a spare antenna for receivers. It needs no power and no configuration.

Choose the UA860 when the stage is small and the antenna can be near it; for a remote position or a wide stage a directional antenna (HA-8091 for PSM, UA874WB for microphone reception) gives a more dependable result. It connects with ordinary coaxial cable to a PA421B or P9T and fits on a microphone stand.

What to consider when renting

Screw the antenna onto the cable or device by hand, not with tools, and keep it upright. A metal rack door or wall panel in front of it weakens the signal, so lift it out of the rack onto a stand. The cable must be coaxial for the same band and we include it. The antenna works only in the band it is built for, so tell us which transmitter or receiver it goes with.
