The Radial ProAV2 is a passive stereo DI box made specifically for audiovisual events: RCA, 3.5 mm and jack inputs, two XLR outputs. Radial's rugged metal housing stands up to years of stage use. It is rented at conferences and presentations to bring laptop and video audio into the mixer, and by bands to connect keyboards and backing tracks.
Functionally the ProAV2 is close to the Palmer PLI-04; both are passive media DIs, and which one you get depends on availability unless you have a specific preference. A passive box suits active sources such as a computer, player or keyboard. If the instrument is a passive bass or piezo guitar, the active BSS AR-133 is the right choice. The best signal from a computer comes from the Radial USB-Pro USB box.
What to consider when renting
No power or phantom is needed. Use the cable that fits the source and two XLR cables to the mixer; for stereo, pan the mixer channels left and right. The box has a ground lift against hum. Place it at the presenter's table so laptops can be swapped without walking to the mixer. Easy to connect yourself.
