Usually not; the box appears on the computer as a standard USB audio device. Just check that this device, not the internal speaker, is selected as the output.

Can I use USB and the analogue input at the same time?

They are separate inputs on the box. If you plan to use both at once, we will confirm the behaviour before you order; normally one source at a time is planned.

The Palmer PLI 04 USB is a two-channel USB DI box and line isolator in one housing. The laptop connects over a USB cable and the box delivers two balanced XLR signals for the mixer; the computer's headphone output and adapters are not needed. It also has analogue line inputs that pass through isolation transformers, so the same box can take a phone or a player and remove ground-loop hum.

This is our most versatile computer DI: at a conference the presenter plays video sound from a laptop, at a wedding a DJ app runs from a tablet, in a church background music comes from a phone. Compared with the Radial USB-Pro, the PLI 04 USB adds analogue inputs, while the USB-Pro has a headphone output for cueing. If the computer only has a headphone socket and USB cannot be used, take the passive Palmer PLI-04 or Radial ProAV2.

What to consider when renting

The box is powered over USB, so no separate power supply or phantom is needed; the computer sees it as a standard audio device, select it as the output. Two XLR cables go to two channels on the mixer. Keep the computer volume near maximum and set the level at the mixer. For a USB-C laptop bring your own adapter or ask us. The presenter can connect the computer, the technician sets the mixer.
