Can I play music from a phone through the EFX8?

Yes, by connecting the phone to a line input with a 3.5 mm cable or a stereo DI box such as the Palmer PLI-04. Tell us which device you will play from and we will find the right connection.

How many microphones can the EFX8 take at once?

Eight, one per channel. A wireless receiver also takes a channel. If you have more microphones, look at the Soundcraft Ui24R or Yamaha DM3.

The Soundcraft EFX8 is an analogue mixer with eight microphone channels and a built-in Lexicon effects processor. It is a plain, sturdy desk that we rent for small gigs, speaking events and rehearsals: a community hall concert, a church concert, a school band rehearsal or an outdoor village day where the crowd stays within a few hundred. Every control is on the top panel in a logical row, so someone who is not a sound engineer can run it.

The EFX8 connects straight to active speakers such as the JBL PRX815 or SRX812P and needs only XLR cables and power. Unlike the Soundcraft Signature 10 it has no USB interface, so music from a laptop or phone goes in through a 3.5 mm cable or a stereo DI box on a line input. Choose the EFX8 when you want the most direct desk for eight microphones. If recording or more stereo inputs matter, the Signature 10 or Notepad 12FX is the better pick.

What to consider when renting

You need a mains socket, an XLR cable from each microphone and two XLR cables to the speakers. Condenser microphones need phantom power, switched on at the desk. The effect amount is set per channel, and it is worth checking the effect sends before the event so the speech microphone does not carry reverb. If the speakers are far from the stage, order long enough cables.
