Is the KSM9 suitable for a beginner singer?

It forgives less than an SM58: distance from the mic and a hand on the grille are immediately audible. If the singer is not confident with mic technique, we recommend the BETA 58A or SM58.

Is the KSM9 available wireless?

Yes. The same KSM9 capsule is on our Shure AD2/K9N handheld transmitter and as a separate RPW 184 capsule for other Shure transmitters. Ask us for a suitable set.

The Shure KSM9 is a condenser handheld for singers with good mic technique who want to hear studio-level detail on stage. The polar pattern switches between cardioid and supercardioid to suit the stage and the monitor placement. It is rented for lead vocalists at concerts, musicals, jazz and pop vocals, television performers and keynote speakers at conferences where the natural sound of the voice matters. Requires phantom power.

Next to the dynamic vocal mics Shure SM58, BETA 58A and Nexadyne 8/S, the KSM9 is more open and sensitive, but also more demanding: it picks up more stage noise and handling sound if the singer does not control the mic. An experienced singer hears the difference immediately. Wirelessly the same capsule is available on our Shure AD2/K9N transmitter. Pair it with a Yamaha DM3 or QL1 and a K&M 260 stand.

What to consider when renting

Switch 48 V phantom power on for the channel; without it the mic is silent. Choose the pattern with the switch on the body: cardioid on a quieter stage, supercardioid in front of loud monitors, and place the monitors directly behind or at an angle accordingly. Sing close and consistently. Use the clip on a stand or hand-hold it. Being a condenser it is more shock-sensitive than an SM58, so do not drop it. For experienced singers and engineers.
