Will this capsule fit my own Shure transmitter?

Most likely yes, if it is a Shure handheld with an interchangeable head (AD2, ADX2, QLXD2, SLXD2, ULXD2 and similar). Tell us the model and we will confirm before accepting the order.

How is the KSM9 different from the KSM8?

The KSM9 is a condenser with a switchable pattern and a more detailed top end; the KSM8 is dynamic, tougher against handling noise and less sensitive to proximity effect. The difference is obvious at soundcheck. If unsure, take both capsules and let the singer choose.

The RPW 184 is Shure's black KSM9 vocal capsule for a wireless handheld. It is a condenser head whose switch selects cardioid or supercardioid. We rent it for concerts, musicals and galas where the lead singer wants detailed, open sound that stays consistent as the mic drifts from the mouth. It screws onto a handheld transmitter rather than working alone.

It fits the Shure handhelds we rent: AD2, ADX2, QLXD2 and SLXD2. Our AD2/K9N carries a KSM9 head, so a separate capsule makes sense for a second transmitter or the black finish. Against the KSM11 (RPW 192), the KSM9 offers two patterns; the KSM8 (RPW 174) is dynamic and forgives proximity effect. Grille-cuppers do better with the KSM8.

What to consider when renting

The capsule screws onto a Shure handheld transmitter and needs no power or batteries of its own. Before soundcheck, check which pattern is selected: supercardioid helps against wedges on a loud stage, cardioid is more forgiving when the singer moves the mic around. A condenser head is more sensitive than a dynamic one, so keep the transmitter gain sensible and add a windscreen only when needed. Transmitter and receiver are ordered separately; we tune the system before handover.
