The Shure AD2/K11 is the Axient Digital handheld with the KSM11 condenser capsule. It is our pick for a soloist or speaker whose voice has to sound as natural as possible: acoustic concerts, jazz, theatre singing, a gala performer or an important speech. It works with the AD4D, AD4Q and ADX5D receivers.

Unlike the ADX2/K11 it has no ShowLink, so settings are changed in the transmitter's own menu; the sound is the same. On a loud rock stage the AD2/B58 is more forgiving, and in the simpler series the QLXD2/K11 carries the same capsule. Receiver, batteries and charger have to be added separately.

What to consider when renting

It needs an Axient Digital receiver and power from two AA batteries or a Shure rechargeable. The condenser capsule is sensitive, so set the gain at the soundcheck with the engineer and keep the microphone away from monitors. Infrared sync takes seconds. If the microphone sits on a stand, order the clip and the stand separately.
