The Shure AD2/B58 is the Axient Digital handheld with the Beta 58A capsule, the Axient handheld we rent most often to bands. The supercardioid dynamic capsule puts up with a loud stage and monitors close by. It suits vocals, a moderator and an audience microphone that passes from hand to hand.

Any of the AD4D, AD4Q and ADX5D receivers will take it. If you need ShowLink remote control, take the ADX2/B58A. The same capsule in the simpler series: the QLXD24/B58 kit or the SLXD24D/B58 dual kit, both with receiver. If you want a softer sound for speech, the AD2/SM58 is a little less sharp.

What to consider when renting

It needs a receiver and two AA batteries or a Shure rechargeable. Infrared sync and gain setting take a couple of minutes at the soundcheck. The Beta 58A is supercardioid: keep monitors off to the rear sides of the microphone, not directly behind it. If the microphone travels through the audience, lock the power button and ask people to speak close to it.
