How many lavaliers can a panel use at once?

As many as there are receiver channels and clean frequencies; a typical panel uses four to six. Tell us the number of speakers and we will put together a receiver package with antenna distribution.

Is the MX150 suitable for singing?

For speech yes, for singing not really: a chest-mounted mic is far from the mouth and the level shifts as the head moves. A singer is better off with a headset or a handheld.

The MX150B is Shure's black subminiature omnidirectional lavalier with a TA4F plug. It is the dependable everyday lav for conferences, panel discussions, press conferences, seminars and corporate events where the speaker wants their hands free and does not need to hide the mic. It clips to a collar or jacket lapel and is meant for speech; for singing a headset is the better tool.

It needs a Shure bodypack transmitter (SLXD1, QLXD1 or AD1) and a receiver, ordered separately or as a kit; for two speakers the SLXD14D with two bodypacks is convenient. If the picture goes to a TV camera or the mic really must be invisible, pick the DPA 4061, which is smaller and more neutral. If the speaker turns their head a lot or speaks quietly in a noisy room, a headset such as the MX153 or DH5T gives a steadier level because the capsule moves with the mouth.

What to consider when renting

Clip the mic at sternum height in the centre, not under the collar, and make sure a necklace, scarf or beard cannot scrape the capsule. The transmitter goes on the belt or in a pocket with the antenna hanging free. Check the transmitter battery before every session and explain the mute switch to the speaker, or lock it. For several speakers we coordinate frequencies and recommend a technician to swap mics between sessions.
