Does the ADX2/B58A sound the same as a wired Beta 58A?

The capsule is the same, so the character is the same. The digital radio link adds very little colour and most listeners will not tell the difference.

Do I always need the AD610 for ShowLink?

Yes. Without the access point the ADX2 behaves like a standard AD2 and settings are changed in the transmitter's own menu.

The Shure ADX2/B58A is the Axient Digital handheld with the familiar Beta 58A dynamic capsule and ShowLink remote control. It is the workhorse for big stages: band vocals, a conference moderator, a TV presenter. The Beta 58A supercardioid capsule keeps feedback at bay even on a loud stage with monitors close by.

It needs an Axient Digital receiver, AD4D, AD4Q or ADX5D, and an AD610 access point for ShowLink. The same microphone without remote control is the AD2/B58; in the simpler series the QLXD24/B58 kit comes with its receiver. If you want a more detailed condenser sound, choose the ADX2/K11.

What to consider when renting

Add a receiver, batteries and, if wanted, the AD610. The transmitter runs on a Shure rechargeable battery; charge it before the event. Sync the transmitter with the receiver by infrared and set the gain at the soundcheck. For a microphone that moves from hand to hand, lock the power button so nobody switches it off by accident. Place monitors to the side of the microphone, not directly behind it.
