Shure AD3
WIRELESSAxient Digital plug-on wireless transmitter
Prices are per 24 hours of rental. Longer rentals, delivery and setup are quoted on request.
The Shure AD3 is the Axient Digital plug-on transmitter: it screws onto an ordinary XLR microphone and makes it wireless. It supplies phantom power, so it also works with condenser microphones such as the Sennheiser MKH 416. We rent it to reporters, film crews with a boom microphone and stages that want a specific wired microphone without the cable.
The transmitter pairs with all three Axient Digital receivers: AD4D, AD4Q and ADX5D. On a camera the ADX5D is the match, in a hall the AD4D. For a vocal handheld the AD2 transmitters are more comfortable; the AD3 is for making an existing microphone wireless. Microphone and receiver have to be added separately.
What to consider when renting
It needs an Axient Digital receiver, an XLR microphone and power from AA batteries or a Shure rechargeable. Switch phantom power on only when the microphone needs it; keep it off with dynamic microphones. On a boom, fix the transmitter firmly and check that the pole still balances comfortably. Hold it in front of the receiver for the infrared sync.
Best for
- Reporters and handheld interviews
- Boom microphone on a film shoot
- A wireless shotgun microphone
- A special wired microphone on stage
