Sennheiser MKH8040 stereo pair

Two Sennheiser MKH8040 microphones in one set, intended for stereo recording and symmetrical two-mic pickups. Typical jobs are recording a classical concert or choir as an ORTF or XY pair, recording piano, a drum overhead pair and capturing the stereo image of an acoustic ensemble in a hall. The cardioid pattern gives a clear sense of space while keeping audience noise and room sound under control. The mics are neutral, so the stereo image stays natural.

If you need only one microphone, rent the single Sennheiser MKH8040. For a large-diaphragm stereo pair we have the AKG C414 XLII pair, which is multipattern and warmer in character; the MKH8040 pair is more neutral and better for recording from a distance. For recording the Sound Devices MixPre6 MKII has enough preamps for both mics; for a concert use a Yamaha QL1 or DM3 console. A stereo bar for putting both mics on one stand should be agreed separately when ordering.
