Does it sound the same as a wired SM58?

Yes, the capsule is the same. The difference is the wireless link and the fact that you need a receiver.

Does the microphone come with a receiver?

No, the AD2/SM58 is the transmitter only. For a complete kit add an AD4D or AD4Q and batteries, or choose the QLXD24/B58, which includes its receiver.

The Shure AD2/SM58 is the Axient Digital handheld with the best-known vocal capsule of all, the SM58. We rent it for conferences, speeches and performers who are used to the SM58. The cardioid capsule is forgiving of hand position and distance, which makes it a good fit where the microphone moves between inexperienced speakers.

It needs an Axient Digital receiver, AD4D, AD4Q or ADX5D. On a loud band stage the AD2/B58 has a tighter pattern; the AD2/K11 gives a more detailed sound. For a simpler event the cheaper choice is the QLXD24/B58 or SLXD24D/B58, which come with their receiver.

What to consider when renting

Add a receiver and batteries. Power from two AA batteries or a Shure rechargeable. Sync by infrared, set the gain on the transmitter at the soundcheck. With a cardioid capsule place monitors directly behind the microphone. For an audience microphone lock the transmitter buttons and ask speakers to hold it close to the mouth, otherwise the voice stays quiet.
