The iSEMcon EMX-7150 is a measurement microphone built for measuring and tuning a sound system, not for recording a performance. It is an omnidirectional condenser with a flat frequency response, and each unit comes with its own individual calibration data. It is usually rented together with measurement software such as Smaart or REW to check PA delays, EQ and subwoofer alignment before a concert or conference.

On its own, a measurement microphone shows relative changes; to read absolute sound pressure levels the microphone has to be calibrated before measuring. For that we have the iSEMcon SC-1 calibrator, which is worth adding to the same order whenever you plan to measure SPL. You will also need an audio interface or mixer that supplies phantom power, and a stand such as the K&M 210/9 to place the microphone at listener height.

What to consider when renting

The microphone needs 48 V phantom power, so connect it with an XLR cable to a microphone input on an interface or mixer with phantom switched on. You need a computer running measurement software and a microphone stand; a standard mic clip fits. Load the calibration file into the software before measuring. Interpreting the results takes experience; if needed, our technician can tune the system for you.
